    For this part, Dr. Ali bin Muhammad al-Shaikhi, Director General of the General Administration of Fisheries, said during the meeting, which was moderated by the Chairman of the Agriculture and Food Committee in the Chamber, Muhammad bin Nasser Al Dayal, that the area available for fishing in the Arabian Gulf is one-third of the available area in the Red Sea. Two-thirds of the Kingdom's production from fisheries, indicating that the marine environment suffers from challenges and violations, and we are working to address it now, through our endeavor to make the marine environment one of the best natural environments.
    Al-Sheikhi indicated that 4 investment brochures were received last week for projects of seaports in the eastern region, saying that the ports would become a civilized interface for coastal tourism in the eastern region.
    For his part, Engineer Ayman bin Saad Al-Ghamdi, Director General of the Department of Plant Health, said that we aim to be the first line of defense for plant wealth and protect plant health from pests and disasters and work to combat them, through monitoring and detection of pests.
    Al-Ghamdi pointed out that the ministry provides a group of pesticides according to the plan, which depends on the spread of pests and crops in each region, according to the percentage of need present in it, indicating that the pesticides are provided so that technicians and specialists can use them.
    Dr. Bandar bin Muhammad Al-Saqhan, Director General of the General Administration of Agricultural Research and Extension, confirmed that the ministry has many initiatives and projects that benefit the sector, pointing to research projects that provide appropriate recommendations to farmers and that contribute to raising awareness and proper guidance for their work, stressing that there is a tangible development at the level of Guidance through electronic communication with farmers, whether using applications or others, saying that one million consultations were provided during the Corona pandemic.
    Al-Saqhan announced the ministry’s intention to create 40 field schools, of which several schools will be in the eastern region, as a contribution from the ministry to developing farmers ’capabilities, explaining that the route of the agricultural convoy that recently launched in Riyadh will pass over the eastern region in its second phase and it is likely that it will reach Region next week.
    He also talked about several initiatives such as the palm and dates initiative, as well as promising crops, and a new initiative to be launched soon devoted to agriculture without using "hydroponic" soil, and the provision of monitoring devices for pesticide residues, praising the Al-Hasa Research Center, which is one of the best research centers in the Kingdom, which provides its services to farmers​.
    Dr. Suleiman bin Ali Al-Khatib, Director General of the General Administration of Plant Wealth, said that the administration is mainly concerned with everything related to plant wealth and plant production and everything that goes into the production chain, starting with production inputs, and the administration also takes into account issues related to the crop composition at the regional and governorate levels.
    Al-Khatib indicated that the administration is working on developing guidelines for best agricultural practices to​ control the quality of products, procedures, and agricultural steps, and we have also worked to launch the quality mark (Saudi Gab) to raise the level of health and safety of products and achieve food security.​
